A proven leader in the medical assessment industry

Complete Canadian and U.S. coverage – We provide all types of medical and paramedical assessments and related services across Canada, in all specialties. For patients in remote areas or where certain specialties are not available, we have assessors who travel. Alternatively, we can also make arrangements for patients to travel to the nearest qualified assessor. Through our parent company, Examworks, SOMA has access to health professionals across the U.S. as well.

Experience and skill level of staff – We employ an extremely skilled and well-trained staff to ensure that every report we deliver is of exceptional quality and the most defensible in the industry. Our one of a kind in-house staff includes well respected clinicians and previous claims handlers.

Caliber of Assessors – We are dedicated to properly recruiting, qualifying and maintaining top-notch assessors. In order to provide the most defensible report possible, we utilize only the most qualified assessors across Canada. Many of these assessors are on the cutting-edge of their profession and head up research programs that publish the latest medical breakthroughs.

Commitment to Exceptional Quality and Service – In 2002, SOMA became an ISO 9001 Quality Certified assessment facility. Accordingly we are held to extremely high quality standards and maintain quality checks throughout each step of the assessment process. Most importantly, each and every report is thoroughly reviewed by our Quality Assurance department.

Quick Turnaround Time – We understand the importance of timely report turnaround and are accustomed to performing under the strict time guidelines imposed by customers and legislation. To ensure that we meet and exceed required timelines, we’ve implemented a custom, state of the art software system that enables us to monitor each referral from start to finish.

Proper Clinical Coordination – We fully coordinate each and every referral to ensure the highest quality reports are provided to all of our customers. Our staff, at various levels of the referral process, complete a full review of all pertinent issues, as well as all documents on file to ensure that the appropriate specialists have been scheduled and to ensure that there are no conflicts of interests on any of our files. In performing the more complex multi disciplinary assessments, we ensure proper case conferencing and review of all assessment reports to ensure a true team consensus is provided in all cases we handle. We have in house capabilities to handle a referral from specific task assignments to full case management according to our customers’ needs.

Specialty in complex cases and Catastrophic Impairment Assessments – For our Automobile Insurance customers, we handle all types of assessments, in all disciplines but specialize in complex cases and Catastrophic Impairment Assessments. To oversee all complex and CAT referrals, we have in-house senior management who are certified in the 4th and 5th Edition AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment Rating. With our level of expertise and unparalleled experience in this area, we organize and conduct seminars to train assessors to become Certified Catastrophic Impairment raters.

Leadership in the industry – As a well respected leader in the medical assessment industry, Dr. Troy Cumiskey co-founded the Association of Independent Assessments Centres (AIAC). SOMA’s Vice President, Tracey Glionna currently sits on the Board of Executives for the AIAC. SOMA’s active involvement in the AIAC ensures that we are always at the forefront of the industry, and are well-informed of all current and future issues within the industry.
